About Patterson S. Weaver, Esq.
Patterson Weaver was born in the South Hills of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and graduated from Upper St. Clair High School. He then attended Penn State University where he majored in Political Science with minors in both Economics and Religious Studies, earning his Bachelor of Arts degree in 2001. During his college years, Patterson did volunteer work with Young Life, an international Christian outreach to high school students. This experience combined with his course work developed in him a desire to use his political science background to teach social studies at the high school level. To prepare, he pursued a Master’s of Science in Education (M.S.Ed.) at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh graduating in 2002 with a 4.0 GPA. He was honored as a Dean’s Teaching Fellow.
After graduating from Duquesne University, out of a love for the outdoors and the Rocky Mountains, Patterson moved to Colorado, where he became a high school social studies teacher in Custer County for three years. Patterson displayed a passion and talent for teaching, and in fact the Custer County chapter of the National Honors Society named him Teacher of the Year in just his second year there.
In addition to teaching courses in Advanced Placement Government and U.S. History, Patterson developed and taught a course in Practical Law and Mock Trial. Through teaching basic trial techniques and case analysis to his high school student, Patterson discovered a talent for the courtroom and a desire to explore that talent. He left teaching in 2006 to attend the University of Denver Sturm College of Law.
A Solid Legal Foundation for Current and Future Success
As a student at the University of Denver Sturm College of Law, Patterson graduated in the top 20% of his class while building an impressive foundation in trial practice and negotiation. He was selected to participate on the ABA Mock Trial Team, AAJ Mock Trial Team, NACDL Mock Trial Team, and the ABA Negotiations Team. Patterson also acquired a number of intra-school honors, most notably winning the Hoffman Cup Mock Trial Competition, the law school’s most prestigious competition. In 2009, the student body of the University of Denver Sturm College of Law honored Patterson Weaver as the “Most Outstanding Barrister” (i.e., best court-room attorney).
Patterson Weaver also gave back to the DU Sturm College of Law through participation in a variety of extracurricular clubs, and was selected to a number of leadership positions including: Vice President, Criminal Law Association 2008-2009; Vice President, Student Trial Lawyers Association 2007-2008; and Board Member, Moot Court Board 2008-2009.
Additionally, Patterson participated in the Criminal Representation Clinic where he represented indigent clients in traffic and misdemeanor cases. Due to his tireless efforts on behalf of his clients, and the positive outcomes he was able to attain for them, he was awarded the “Outstanding Student Award” by the clinic.
Experienced Criminal Attorney and Former Felony Prosecutor
As a third year law student, Patterson Weaver worked as a Trial Intern with the 1st Judicial District Attorney’s Office in Golden, Colorado. There he prosecuted hundreds of traffic and DUI cases, earning an outstanding trial record of 16-2 including a DUI jury trial record of 5-0.
After law school, the 4th Judicial District Attorney’s Office (Colorado Springs, Colorado) hired Patterson as a County Court prosecutor. He prosecuted hundreds of traffic, DUI, domestic violence, and other misdemeanor cases with a high rate of success.
While a County Court prosecutor, Patterson became one of the few attorneys in the state of Colorado to try and win an evidentiary “Shreck” hearing on the admissibility of Drug Recognition Expert (DRE) testimony. For his efforts, the Pikes Peak Region DUI Taskforce gave him the “Complex Prosecution Award”. In fact, the Colorado District Attorney’s Counsel still uses the transcript of this hearing when training young Deputy District Attorneys to try Driving Under the Influence of Drugs (DUI-D) cases. This extensive background in the investigation and prosecution of DUI-D cases is still an invaluable asset to Patterson as he works to defend his DUI clients.
Soon, Patterson Weaver was promoted from County Court to District Court, where he worked as a Felony Prosecutor, prosecuting a wide variety of felonies including high level Crime of Violence cases.
Aggressive and Effective Criminal Defense
In 2011, Patterson was hired away from the District Attorney’s Office by a large local firm where he was assigned to the Criminal Defense Division. In that capacity, he defended clients in cases ranging from traffic tickets to vehicular homicide and felony Crime of Violence cases. Patterson consistently obtained excellent outcomes for his clients. Additionally, he regularly worked on cases in a variety of additional practice areas including Domestic Relations, Landlord-Tenant, Protection Order and Restraining Orders, and various other matters.

Eventually, Patterson Weaver left the constraints of a large firm to open up his own practice, Peakstone Law Group, LLC, formerly “Peakstone Law Group, LLC,” where he is better able to focus on the needs of each individual client, and is free to pursue his own legal areas of interest. As owner and managing attorney of his firm, Patterson has expanded his practice to include expertise in Estate Administration, Probate Litigation and Will Contests, Estate Planning, and Personal Injury.
