Michael Obernesser is a “nearly-native” Colorado Springs resident, having moved from New York to Colorado Springs in 1977. After graduating from Air Academy High School in 1993, Michael went on to Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio where he graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor’s Degree in Philosophy. After college, Michael attended Northwestern University Pritzker School of Law, where he was a member of the Bluhm Legal Clinic, which offered pro bono representation to Chicago area youth in criminal and school expulsion cases. Michael was awarded his Juris Doctor from Northwestern in 2001.

After law school, Michael worked for several large firms in Chicago, Illinois where his practice focused on civil litigation. From 2001 to 2004, Michael worked as an associate for Morgan Lewis & Bockius, LLP in their environmental insurance litigation division. From 2004 to 2006, Michael worked for Howrey, Simon, Arnold & White LLP (now defunct) in their global litigation division.

In 2007, Michael returned to Colorado Springs with his family and he began working as an associate of Dennis Hartley, PC in the areas of civil litigation and criminal defense. Michael was part of a trial team that handled trial and appellate issues for all manner of criminal cases, including arson, drug charges, financial crimes, murder, and everything in-between.

In 2010, Michael started the Obernesser & Obernesser Law Firm, where he was a partner with his father Peter. From 2010 to 2020, Obernesser & Obernesser helped hundreds of clients in need of legal help in a wide array of matters, both civil and criminal. From contract review to corporate governance, from speeding tickets to sexual assault, Obernesser & Obernesser was a full-service law firm dedicated to serving its clients.

After the retirement of his legal partner and father, Peter Obernesser, in 2020 Michael joined Peakstone Law Group, LLC where he uses his tremendous experience and ability to help clients in both our criminal and civil divisions.
